Hickory by Choice 2030 Project
The City of Hickory is in the middle of updating the Hickory by Choice: Future Land Use and Transportation Plan. The plan, which was originally adopted in 1999, will be updated and revised to address current and anticipated challenges in the future development of Hickory.
The Hickory City Council has selected Studio Cascade of Spokane Washington to serve as the consultant for the update project. Studio Cascade has developed a project webapge which contains meeting dates, project information, and background materials. Click here to view the Hickory By Choice 2030 webpage. Planning and Development Department
The City of Hickory's Planning and Development Department is responsible for overseeing the physical development of the City of Hickory. The departments primary functions involve land use planning, development review, community development, redevelopment, and economic development.
The department also staffs a number of boards and commissions which include the Hickory Regional Planning Commission, Community Appearance Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Public Art Commission, Citizen's Advisory Commission, Brownfield Advisory Group, and the Youth Council.
